In more than 35 years as a staff writer for The Philadelphia Inquirer, Anthony R. Wood has written on a broad range of subjects, including weather, taxes, coastal development, and the changing oceans. Wood has been nominated for Pulitzer Prizes four times. He was co-author of the series, Crisis on the Coast, published as a book, which warned five years before Katrina that an epochal hurricane disaster was inevitable. He has won numerous awards, including a National Association of Science Writers citation for his series on the Gulf Stream and a Society of Professional Journalists award for environmental writing.
He is the author of Snow: A History of the World’s Most Fascinating Flake, published in December 2020 by Prometheus/Rowman & Littlefield, a treatise on the history, science and cultural effects of snow. He continues to write frequently about weather and was the author of a popular series on biometeorology. Much of the material in his latest book, Something in the Air: A Four Season Guide to Our Health and the Weather, is drawn from years of independent research and personal experience.
