He has been a staff writer and editor at The Philadelphia Inquirer for more than 35 years, nominated for a Pulitzer Prize four times, and has won numerous awards including a National Association of Science Writers citation for his series on the Gulf Stream and a Society of Professional Journalists award for environmental writing.
